This easy cinnamon french toast recipe is a family favorite and once you try it, it is going to become a staple in your home.

My 4-year-old daughter is a picky eater that likes to be served as a princess. She loves this cinnamon french toast served with strawberries, blackberries, powdered sugar, and maple syrup.

Cinnamon French Toast Recipe

This recipe is simple and all you need are few ingredients. Let me share my trusted french toast recipe with you.

To make this recipe, all you need are some common pantry items and any type of bread. I love to use Texas toast but I have used Brioche bread a couple of times and it came out just as good. Brioche bread is bread rich in eggs, milk, and butter and adds a richness to your toast. Slightly stale bread is ideal for french toast because fresh bread will soak up the mixture quickly and may make it soggy.

This recipe is quick and easy to follow and if followed step by step will yield amazing results. This recipe does not use vanilla extract or nutmeg but may be added if desired.

Ingredients

The detailed ingredient list and directions in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.

Bread: I use Texas Toast bread, brioche or challah bread

Eggs

Milk: Use milk of your choice, almond milk, coconut milk

Cinnamon powder

Salted Butter

Sugar (Optional)

Equipment needed

For this recipe, the only equipment you need is a nonstick frying pan, or a gas or an electric griddle. With a griddle, you can make more than one toast as a time and it can save you time if you are making for a large family. You also need a shallow bowl to allow easy dipping of your bread.

How to make Cinnamon French Toast

Combine the eggs, milk, cinnamon powder, sugar(optional) in a bowl and whisk.

Place a skillet over medium heat and add half a tablespoon of butter.

Dunk a slice of bread in the mixture of eggs, milk, cinnamon powder. Dip and flip the slice of bread to ensure the mixture is absorbed but not too much to avoid your french toast getting soggy.

Place the bread on the skillet and cook each side for about 3 mins each.

Serve and enjoy your cinnamon french toast with syrup and fruits of your choice.

French Toast Sticks

To make french toast sticks, cut your bread into sticks before dipping into the mixture. This variation is ideal as a quick snack and for young children. You can make this and store in the freezer, it is quick to pop in the microwave, oven and makes quick breakfast for the days you have to dash out the door.

What to serve with

My kids love to eat theirs with fresh fruits, powdered sugar, and maple syrup. You can serve with powdered sugar, Nutella, whipped cream, jam, honey or any topping of your choice. Personally, I like to serve mine plain or with honey and fresh fruits.

How to store

Cinnamon french toast can be stored up to 1 day in the refrigerator and 3 months in the freezer.

Refrigerator: To store in the refrigerator for a day or 24 hours, wrap leftover cinnamon french toast in plastic wrap or place in an airtight bag or container and keep in the refrigerator for a day.

Freezer: To freeze, place in a single layer in an airtight freezer bag. To avoid your french toast sticking together, it is important they are in a single layer or separated by wax paper.

How to reheat your cinnamon french toast

The best way to reheat your french toast is by reheating in an oven or by using a toaster but you can also reheat in a microwave.

Oven: Arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil, place in a preheated oven at 350F for 10-12 minutes or until hot.

Toaster: Place in a toaster until hot.

Microwave: Microwave in a single layer for 30 seconds or until hot. Do not stack your french toast.

Frequently Asked Question

Why is my french toast soggy?

It may be soggy because you left it in the mixture for too long. If you are using a bread that is thinly sliced, dunk for just enough time to get enough mixture on both sides by flipping it.

Why is my French toast dry?

This may be because you did not dip your bread into the mixture enough to absorb enough mixture. Ensure you use a shallow bowl and dunk your bread to avoid dry toast.

Can I use Oil instead of butter?

Yes, you can substitute oil for butter in the recipe. Ensure your griddle or frying pan is well greased to avoid it sticking to the pan or griddle.

Why is it undercooked inside?

Your griddle is set too high or you are using too much heat for your frying pan. Reduce the heat to medium or adjust the settings of your electric griddle.

What is the best bread for cinnamon french toast?

You can use any type of bread. Personally, I use Texas toast bread for mine. Texas toast is a thick-sliced bread. It has a good thickness that retains moisture.
