How to build new habits! Habits are patterns that are repeated regularly and make up our routines. Building a new habit can change the course of one’s life and lead to success and happiness.
Human beings are creatures of habit. We wake up in the morning, go through our phones, prayer, brush, shower, and go to work. We start learning and forming healthy habits as children. Habits in children are influenced by the surroundings they live in. Personally, I have found that it is hard to form a new habit. Whether it is to read more books, get more hours of sleep, exercise, eat healthily, or stay positive. Habits take time to form and these practical tips will help create patterns that can develop healthy habits.
Tips to Build Healthy Habits
When creating habits, it is important to strive for progress and not perfection. Developing healthy habits can help you achieve your goal and become more productive. Habits should be attached to existing routines in a pattern that makes sense. Habits take some time to be created and slow, steady progress makes them easier to be accomplished.
Keep it Simple
Most people struggle to create and form new habits. While it might be fun to go to the gym every day to exercise the first few weeks of the new year, after some time it may lose the attraction and motivation may become low. Picking a new habit that is easy enough to get done will make it easier to develop into a routine. Starting with going to the gym twice a week and build on it will make it easier to accomplish and develop into a habit.
Plan for it
Planning gives a purpose to each day. Planning your day helps with time management. Adequate planning helps ensure that there is time in each day for the habit. Using a daily planner will help organize and stay on top of all things that need to be done until the routines develop into habits. If you are not a planner, read about how and why you need to use a planner here.
Commit to it
A habit takes time to form. Some say it takes 21 days to build a habit. There will be days when you will feel like giving up the new habit. It is important to be committed and to stay consistent enough for the habits to become automatic. Celebrate the small wins, it is okay to miss some days, but do not stop. It is easier to break a habit than to create new habits. Be prepared for the obstacles and challenges that may arise and have fun building new habits.
Habits can be tough to develop. To build new habits, it is important to keep it simple, plan, and be committed to the habit. What are some tips that have worked for you to develop new habits? Share in the comment.
