How to Live a Happy Life! Happiness is highly sought after by all but eludes many people. True happiness is finding joy in the simple things of life.
Happiness is a feeling of joy. For most people, it is hard to find. In the movie, Pursuit of Happyness, through persistence, passion and not giving up, Chris was able to change the course of his life.
Life is not a movie but it sure has its ups and downs. Happiness is a state of mind, to live life at its best and enjoy life, happiness is important. These ten ways will help you find happiness and to achieve a sense of fulfillment and contentment.
10 ways to be Happy
Many people wait to be happy and live their life. “When I buy my dream car then I will be happy ” or ” When I get the promotion then I will live a happier life”. When happiness is tied to material things or acquiring a position, it is fleeting and never lasts. True happiness comes from within and comes by enjoying the present. Do not wait to be happy, life is happening right now.
We all have a choice to decide who we want to be, Eeyore or Tigger. Both of them are characters from Winnie the Pooh, a Disney TV show. Eeyore is a gloomy, often depressed grey monkey while Tigger is a bouncy, happy, outgoing, energetic optimist. If you hang around a Tigger, some of their happiness will rub off on you and if you hang around an Eeyore, you will get some of their gloomy, sad vibes. Live your happiest life with these ten keys for a happier life.
Love Yourself
Love and accept yourself. Nobody is perfect! Nobody has a perfect life. People have money problems, marital problems, drug problems. You are fearfully and wonderfully made Psalm 139:14, unique and special. There is only one of you, slim or fat, short or tall. Believe in yourself and if you think you are unlovable, you are dead wrong, Jesus loved you so much that he died for your sins. You are a big deal!
Be Positive
Positivity is being optimistic, expecting the best results. To change your life, you need to change your mindset. Do not fear of failing to keep you from trying. Write that book, apply for that job, just do it! What if you don’t get the job? You move on to the next one. Failure is a chance to learn from a mistake and improve.
Be Thankful
Life does not have to be perfect for it to be good. You do not need to have your life together to show gratitude. Always remember, what you have, someone else is praying for. No matter how little you think you have. If you are well and have a roof over your head and food to eat, be thankful for that. Count your blessings and give thanks. When you are thankful, you will feel happier about yourself and your life.
Love your Job
Do what you love and love what you do. Are you stuck in a job you do not love because you need a paycheck? Learn to love the job while you search for a better one. Be thankful for the job, give it your best, be diligent. The soul of a lazy man desires and has nothing but the soul of the rich shall be made rich, Proverbs 13:4. Love your job and find a good work-life balance to reduce stress and to live a happy life.
Exercise
One of the many effects of exercise is the ability to improve your mood. Exercise release endorphins, the feel-good chemicals. Incorporate a good workout into your daily schedule. There are quick workout routines available on Youtube for free or you can get a gym membership or try running around a safe neighborhood or a community field or park.
Forgive
Forgiveness is tough. Personally, I struggled with forgiveness for a long time. I had to be intentional about forgiving and not holding a grudge. Forgive yourself for past mistakes and forgive others. It is okay to hurt but let go of the anger and the bitterness towards the person who wronged you. Letting go of resentment will make your mind lighter and open to happiness.
Listen to music
Listening to music can improve your mood, reduce stress, and make you more productive. There are various types of music, choose the right kind. Sing out loud, dance with no rhythm, and uplift your mood and be happy. Personally, I love to listen to worship songs when I am feeling down, It reminds about who I am and the promises of God for me.
Be Generous
Being generous is not only about giving money. You can give your time, volunteer at a local church, give a homeless person a blanket or a warm meal. Putting a smile on other people’s face will put a smile on yours. Buy a stranger a meal or a cup of coffee.
Be in the Right Crowd
The company you keep determines the vibes around you. If you keep negative, pessimistic people as friends, they will draw you back. Moods can be contagious if you hang around happy people, they will give you good vibes but unhappy, sad people who complain about everything around them will weigh you down.
Keep a Journal
Writing is a good way to document your emotions and to let things out. I have a journal where I write down my goals, prayer points, blessings. As each prayer is answered, I write it in my list of things to be thankful for. You can do this as often as you like to suit your lifestyle. You can do it weekly, monthly, or every quarter.
