This spicy homemade salsa is delicious with a nice kick that will have you dipping for more with tortilla chips. This is the best homemade salsa!

I live in Texas and I love my Tex-Mex food. This homemade salsa is a family favorite topping with tacos, burritos and served with tortilla chips. Tortilla chips and salsa is my favorite game food, the well-balanced taste of the ingredients with just the right kick is amazing.

Easy Homemade Spicy Salsa Recipe

This homemade salsa is made with fresh ingredients in the right proportion. This is the best salsa recipe ever, and once you try it, you are never going to buy the store brand again. This recipe uses fresh tomatoes and canned tomatoes for brightness. Be careful to drain your tomatoes to avoid your salsa being watery.

INGREDIENTS

Tomatoes: Fresh red Roma tomatoes.

Canned Tomatoes: I like to mix my fresh tomatoes with canned tomatoes. This gives it a rich bright look.

Jalapeno: This adds the spiciness. Remove all the seeds, to reduce the heat. stemmed and cut.

Fresh Cilantro: This adds the flavor to the salsa.

Garlic: Fresh garlic adds flavor to the salsa.

Red Onions: You can substitute for white or yellow onions. For best results, use red onions.

Lime: Lime balances the taste of the salsa.

Cumin: Adds flavor to the salsa

How to Make Spicy Salsa

Chop up the ingredients to make it easier to blend.

Add all ingredients to a food processor or blender

Blend until you have the right consistency. Not smooth.

Adjust taste if desired.

Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Enjoy with tortilla chips or as a topping.

HOW TO STORE

Spicy homemade salsa can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. To store in the refrigerator, keep in an airtight container for up to 10 days, keeping it chilled when not in use. To store in the freezer, keep in an airtight freezer-safe bag or container for up to three months.

Can I adjust the spiciness of the salsa?

To adjust the heat, you can reduce the jalapenos and take out all the seeds of the jalapenos. If you like the heat, leave the seeds in.

Can I use canned tomatoes for salsa?

Yes! You can use canned tomatoes. I like to use fresh tomatoes and mix it with little canned tomatoes for a brighter color.

How do I make salsa without a food processor?

This easy salsa recipe can be made using a blender and in the absence of blender, you can chop all ingredients by hand and combine together for pico de gallo.

My Salsa is too watery and smooth.

Drain your tomatoes to avoid watery salsa and use the pulse button to avoid over blending.

Ingredients

  • 4 Roma tomatoes
  • ¾ juice of 1 lime
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 2 Jalapenos
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ cup red onions
  • ½ cup canned tomatoes or half a can

Instructions

  • chop all ingredients. Drain the tomatoes
    Roma tomatoes, lime, cumin, salt, cilantro and jalapeno for salsa
  • Add all ingredients to a food proceesor or blender.
  • Blend using pulse button to get a chunky consistency
  • Adjust taste if desired.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 mins.
