Makeup is worn to enhance your natural beauty. I love makeup, there is something about all the different colors and shimmering that attracts me.
My 4-year-old is fascinated with makeup and is always playing in my makeup drawer. Although she is not yet old enough to wear makeup, she indulges herself with the nude lipgloss. So we can conclude, whether young or old, we love makeup.
I rarely wear heavy makeup and prefer to wear light makeup. I use makeup to mask imperfections and to make my appearance more appealing and attractive but when I do need to, I have the basic makeup kit for beginners and some more.
Basic makeup kit for Beginners on a Budget
Choosing the basic makeup kit for beginners can be overwhelming and you are probably reading this because you are wondering about the makeup kit to buy as a beginner. There are a plethora of makeup brands and products. It can be overwhelming to decide the products you need.
I will be sharing my basic makeup kit with the right products you need to start your makeup kit.

- Makeup Primer
Makeup primer is not necessary but it is recommended because it helps minimize the pores on the face and serves as a base for your foundation. There are various types of primers based on skin type. If you have dry skin, a hydrating primer like e.l.f hydrating primer. Milk of Magnesia can be used as a face primer, it shrinks the pores and gives a matte finish.
- Foundation

- Concealer
Concealer is thicker than foundation and it is used to hide dark spots. If you have dark circles, concealer can be used to hide and blend the skin. Concealer can also be used to create natural-looking brows, contour, and enhance your features. I always use a concealer a shade lighter than my foundation shade.
- Blush
Blush adds color to your cheeks and should be used to give dimensions to your face. Apply your blush sparingly to create a defined, younger look. I like soft peach but a little pink also works great. Blush should be applied to the cheekbones and the natural contours of the face.
- Highlighter
I use highlighter to enhance my facial features and to achieve a brighter look. Highlighter can be used to emphasize your eyes, cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, inner eyes, and cupid bow(lips).
- Setting Powder
A setting powder is used to set your foundation and finish your look. The setting powder soaks up excess oil, reduces shine, and gives an overall matte flawless look. A good setting powder is essential to seal the look.
- Eye Primer
Eye primer provides a base for your eyeshadow. It keeps your eyeshadow color vibrant and from fading. Using an eye primer will keep your eyeshadow from creasing and stay longer.
- Eyeshadow
Eyeshadows come in a lot of vibrant colors. Eyeshadows are available in singles and pallette with different shades. For starters, it is advisable to have a nude palette and a vibrant or mixed color palette.
- Mascara

Although you have the full basic makeup kit, you may not get to apply the full face makeup everyday. I love makeup but as a mother of four kids and a middle school math teacher, most of the time, I barely have enough time to apply a full face on makeup in the morning, and some days I go without makeup.
